Reflecting on the PLP

I thought that this project has been very tedious from my point of view, but it has also been eye opening.

I grew up in a rural EMS setting, so I grew up with a lot of practices that would be considered outdated, informal, or even wrong by the experts. I also grew up with people who were accustomed to accomplishing goals with little to no resources. Their idea of a “memo” about an unpopular rule might just be a piece of paper on a cork board in a meeting with a hand written note. Instead of a note, it might even just be a snarky comment about hurt feelings.

However, this has been changing rapidly lately. Many of the practices that we used to consider normal are no longer acceptable, and the environment is overall attempting to catch up to modern standards. This PLP would be a good example of what we can do to bring EMS in Ohio into the 21st Century. This PLP would help EMS create a much more thorough and literate approach to training.

This PLP has made me realize how much work and thought actually goes into administering an EMS agency. The people who implement these spend hours and hours putting them together. Also, the training helps me understand their motives. We spend a lot of time complaining about the tedious work that we have to do; but when you are the head of the project, then you begin to see their justifications. A lot of the employees do not have advanced degrees, so this training will help people see a different side of EMS that they do not normally see.
